Coast Guard Performs Medevac Operation Near Port Fourchon
On February 17, 2024, the US Coast Guard successfully conducted a medical evacuation of a 56-year-old man from the Helix Producer 1, located approximately 95 miles south of Port Fourchon, Louisiana. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received an urgent report from the Helix Producer 1 regarding a crew member suffering from severe kidney stone symptoms. In response, watchstanders swiftly initiated the deployment of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, complemented by an HC-144 Ocean Sentry from the Coast Guard Aviation Training Center in Mobile. Upon arrival at the scene, the helicopter landed on the designated pad, facilitating the transfer of the affected crew member aboard. The patient was subsequently transported to the University Medical Center in New Orleans, where he was reported to be in stable condition following the emergency medical intervention. Power Outage Forces Emergency Shutdown of Helix Producer 1 in Gulf of Mexico
The Helix Producer 1 (HP-1), originally a Baltic Sea train ferry and now serving as a floating production unit, encountered a significant power disruption yesterday at the Phoenix Field in Green Canyon Block 237 in the Gulf of Mexico. At approximately 1:45 p.m. CST on Friday, the vessel experienced a power outage while conducting tests on its power management system, prompting Talos Energy, the field's operator, to initiate an emergency disconnect and suspend production. Prior to this incident, HP-1 was successfully producing oil at a rate of 13,500 barrels per day while dynamically positioned at a depth of 2,000 feet. Fortunately, less than a gallon of hydrocarbons was released into the surrounding environment. Although electrical power has been restored, production remains halted as investigations by the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, Helix Energy Solutions Group, and Talos Energy are underway.
