Working Conditions Aboard the Hermes

On December 20, 2018, at approximately 09:30 a.m., the bulk carrier 'Hermes', sailing from Rotterdam to Norfolk, Virginia, encountered a malfunction with one of its main engine cylinders. The incident took place at coordinates 050 37 50 N, 000 31 58 E, about 13 nautical miles from Beachy Head. With a crew of 21 on board, the vessel dropped anchor to conduct necessary repairs. By 1:30 p.m., the 'Hermes' was back on its course, now estimated to reach its destination on January 1, 2019.

A new charter has been finalized for the transportation of 75,000 tons of coal from Mobile to Hamburg. The deal, valued at $15.60 per tonne FIO, includes the loading of 25,000 tons with shinc terms, as well as an additional 20,000 tons with shinc bends. The loading period is scheduled between March 1 and March 10, 2024, and this undertaking is being facilitated by Salzgitter, with the contract being relet by Oldendorff.
