Working Conditions Aboard the Heyn

On June 20, 2018, at approximately 12:20 a.m., the cargo vessel 'Heyn,' which was traveling from Kokkola to Goole with a crew of seven, experienced a critical loss of main engine power and pitch. This malfunction resulted in the vessel colliding with the south pier of Goole located on the River Ouse, at coordinates 53° 41' 48" N and 0° 51' 59" W. Following the incident, the 'Heyn' suffered damage to its bulbous bow and subsequently ran aground. Fortunately, there were no reports of pollution or water ingress. A tug was dispatched to assist, with an estimated arrival time of 01:15 a.m. on June 21. At the time of grounding, the vessel was carrying a substantial load of 2,556.1 tonnes of feed phosphate, along with 44 tonnes of gas oil and 1.86 cubic meters of lube oil. Following successful recovery efforts, the 'Heyn' resumed its voyage, arriving at Goole by 3:30 p.m. on the same day. The vessel then set sail again on June 29 and arrived at Niestem Sander Drydock in Delfzijl on July 1 for necessary repairs.
