Coast Guard Airlift Rescues Injured Crewmember from Hyundai Tacoma Near Los Angeles

Feb 23, 2015 10:03

On February 22, a Quick Response team from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles successfully conducted a medical evacuation of an injured crew member from the cargo vessel ‘Hyundai Tacoma’. This rescue operation took place approximately 40 miles west of the bustling city of Los Angeles. The 11th Coast Guard District had been alerted on February 16 regarding an injury sustained by a crew member, who was believed to have possible broken bones while approximately 880 miles off the Oregon coast. Upon assessment, the medical crew aboard the Hyundai Tacoma managed to stabilize the injured crew member but advised that he needed immediate medical attention before the vessel was scheduled to dock in Los Angeles on March 5. Given the short distance to the coast, the Coast Guard Flight Surgeon directed that a medevac be executed on February 22. At around 1 p.m., the Coast Guard aircrew launched to respond to the urgent situation, arriving on site approximately two hours later. The crew member was successfully hoisted from the vessel and transported back to the waiting emergency medical personnel at the rescue station. According to reports, the crew member's condition was stable following the evacuation. For additional details, you can view the video report here: http://www.uscgnews.com/go/doc/4007/2466674/
