In a striking revelation, a recent United Nations report has exposed how Ocean Maritime Management (OMM), the shipping enterprise owned by North Korea (DPRK), continues to sidestep international sanctions. The report highlights that OMM persists in its operations by utilizing flags of convenience, frequently altering the names of its vessels, and employing shell companies. This operation strategy has allowed OMM to maintain its maritime activities even after being designated for sanctions back in July 2014. The report indicates that OMM is still under the control of North Korea’s Ministry of Land and Marine Transport. Last year, OMM was reported to be managing 14 vessels; however, it now boasts an additional ship, the Hoe Ryong, as part of its fleet. Such maneuvers raise concerns about North Korea's ability to indirectly engage in maritime activities while evading the watchful eye of the international community.
