In a startling security incident on August 11, 2019, at 7:30 a.m., the Duty Able Seaman aboard the "Kota Waris" spotted two armed intruders attempting to breach the steering gear room while the ship was anchored at position 10:44.3N 106:46.2E, near Phuoc Long Mooring Buoy No. 03 in Vietnam. Promptly notifying the Duty Officer, the crew sprang into action as alarms were raised and personnel mustered to confront the threat. Faced with the vigilant crew's response, the would-be robbers fled the scene without stealing anything. Following the incident, the "Kota Waris" continued its journey and, as of August 20, was making its way toward Telok Ramunia, Malaysia, en route to Singapore.
