KV-ARI Abandonment Case Raises Concerns for 17 Seafarers in Istanbul
The International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) has flagged a serious abandonment situation involving the vessel KV-ARI (IMO: 9177466), currently docked in Istanbul, Turkiye. Under the flag of Liberia, the ship is facing troubling issues that have left its crew in distress. As of October 1, 2024, it has been reported that a total of 17 seafarers, hailing from India, Indonesia, and Myanmar, have not received their wages for two months. This alarming situation not only impacts the livelihoods of these mariners but also raises significant concerns about their welfare while they remain abandoned at port. The ITF maintains a comprehensive Seafarers Abandonment List, which aims to track and address cases like that of the KV-ARI, ensuring the maritime community remains informed and vigilant in protecting seafarers' rights globally. The case remains open as authorities and the ITF work toward a resolution.
