On the morning of September 11, 2016, shortly after departing from Scalloway, the cargo vessel Eems Star encountered serious engine malfunctions while en route to Blyth, positioned eight miles southwest of Scalloway. The six-member crew worked diligently to address the issues, prompting a swift response from the Aith lifeboat and the tug Dunter (IMO: 9114957). Given the deteriorating weather conditions, a decision was made to return the distressed vessel to safer waters near Scalloway. Fortunately, the Eems Star managed to reach the anchorage on her own power, under the vigilant escort of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency's salvage tug, Heracles, which was strategically stationed north of Linga Island. As the tug Dunter arrived, a tow line was established to facilitate a safe return to port. Despite the relentless weather persisting throughout the day on September 12, which hindered their entry, the Dunter remained connected to the Eems Star overnight to ensure stability. The vessel maintained her position with her anchor firmly set until conditions improved later that evening. After 9 p.m., with the Scalloway pilot launch Lyrie joining the operation on a stern line, the trio carefully maneuvered into Scalloway without any incidents, arriving alongside the dock by 11:30 p.m. The Dunter guided the Eems Star, expertly managing the shortened tow line, while the Lyrie assisted in securing the stern. Following essential repairs, the Eems Star was able to depart Scalloway and continue her voyage to Blyth, with an estimated arrival time of September 15. On the afternoon of April 5, 2011, the vessel 'Ems Star', identified by IMO 9421659, encountered significant engine failure as it approached the port of Ijmuiden, caught between the docks. The crew quickly deployed the anchor to prevent the ship from drifting while awaiting assistance. The tugboat 'Hercules' arrived on the scene to provide much-needed support. After securing the 'Ems Star', two additional vessels navigated past. Meanwhile, the tug 'Sirius' was also in transit as the crew managed to lift the anchor.
