On July 1, 2017, a serious maritime accident occurred when the cargo freighter "Tong Mao 1" collided with a South Korean fishing vessel weighing 9 tons. The incident took place approximately 25 miles southeast of Seoqwipo, in the southern region of Jeju Island, during the afternoon hours. The fishing vessel was tragically sunk as a result of the collision. Thankfully, the six crew members on board the fishing vessel were rescued by the "Tong Mao 1." However, one crew member sustained severe injuries and was subsequently airlifted by helicopter to a local hospital, where they unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. The "Tong Mao 1" was on a voyage from Qingdao to Yatsushiro at the time of the incident. This collision serves as a solemn reminder of the dangers faced at sea.
