Urgent Medical Evacuation Near Cartagena: 'Hunzedijk' Crew Member Rescued
On December 24, 2023, a critical medical situation unfolded aboard the vessel 'Hunzedijk' while it was navigating from Tarragona to Horsens. The ship’s captain urgently called for a medical evacuation as a crew member fell seriously ill, approximately seven nautical miles off the coast of Cartagena. Responding promptly, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) of Salvamento MarĂtimo dispatched the Search and Rescue (SAR) boat 'Salvamar Draco'. The dedicated team aboard 'Salvamar Draco' successfully retrieved the afflicted crew member and brought him back to port, where he was swiftly transferred to an ambulance for immediate medical attention at a local hospital.
