On the evening of October 26, 2014, the AMVER ship 'Hyundai Grace' stepped in to assist the U.S. Coast Guard in a search and rescue mission for the 32-foot sailing vessel 'Hale's Revenge,' which was reported disabled and drifting approximately 780 miles off the coast of Oregon, near the California border. The operator of 'Hale's Revenge' confirmed that while no injuries were sustained aboard, the vessel had experienced damage that left it adrift. The situation escalated when the Coast Guard's 13th District command center received a 406 megahertz personal locator beacon alert around 6:50 p.m. The 'Hale's Revenge' was en route from Honolulu to Everett, Washington. In response, an aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento, California, was dispatched with an HC-130 Hercules aircraft, expected to reach the distressed vessel by 1 a.m. Meanwhile, the crew of ‘Hyundai Grace’ offered their support and was projected to arrive around 5 a.m. Coast Guard SAR coordinators remained vigilant, monitoring the conditions of 'Hale's Revenge' and its crew. At the time, the area was experiencing challenging weather, including 12- to 15-foot seas and winds reaching 35 mph.
