Hyundai Jakarta Container Ship Rescued and Back in Service Off Singapore
On October 14, a container ship faced a challenging situation as it became stranded off the coast of Pulau Sebarok, Singapore. The vessel, Hyundai Jakarta, which is flagged under Panama and weighs 80,108 deadweight tons (dwt), was on its way to Port Klang, Malaysia when it ran aground in the Jong Fairway, close to the Monggok Sebarok reef at the coordinates Lat. 01 12N, Long. 103 48E at 09:02 hours. Following the incident, the Hyundai Corporation-managed ship attracted immediate attention from nearby rescue vessels. By 15:00 hours the same day, the Hyundai Jakarta had successfully been relocated to Raffles Reserve anchorage for a thorough inspection. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or environmental pollution from this incident. After completing the inspection, the container ship resumed its journey and was back in active service by early morning on October 15, as indicated by AIS data showing its course towards Port Klang.
