Hyundai Saturn Makes Historic First Arrival at New York Port

Jul 30, 2016 10:17

Marketwired - July 29, 2016 - In a significant milestone for maritime trade, GCT USA proudly welcomed the Hyundai Saturn to its GCT Bayonne terminal. This vessel marks the inaugural call of Hyundai Saturn, part of the G6's New York Express (NYX) service, and is notably the first of five Hyundai ships scheduled to berth at the Port of New York and New Jersey following the expansion of the Panama Canal. With its advanced neo-Panamax design, the Hyundai Saturn boasts a remarkable capacity of 10,077 TEUs, providing a critical link between the largest East Coast market and Hyundai's extensive network spanning Latin America and Central/Northeast Asia. The Saturn's arrival at GCT Bayonne, a state-of-the-art facility equipped to handle the biggest ships navigating the updated Panama locks and Suez Canal, is testament to its operational capabilities. John Atkins, President of GCT USA, expressed pride in the choice of GCT Bayonne, stating, "The G6 and Hyundai were market leaders choosing expanded GCT Bayonne. Our capability to ensure high productivity and quick turnaround times assures carriers of our terminal's reliability across both coasts." In attendance to celebrate this momentous event was New Jersey's Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno alongside valued partners and clients. David Arsenault, President & CEO of Hyundai Merchant Marine America, spotlighted Hyundai's commitment to enhancing the import/export landscape in the northeast, stating, "Hyundai Merchant Marine has invested substantially in deploying the latest neo-Panamax vessels, fostering a more efficient and environmentally friendly fleet. This maiden voyage is a point of pride for our operations." South Korea's Hyundai Merchant Marine continues to lead in the container shipping sector, utilizing larger and fuel-efficient vessels designed to lower emissions for enhanced sustainability. GCT USA's substantial expansion of its Bayonne terminal in 2014 reflects its dedication to employing the most efficient equipment for servicing the largest vessels in transit.
