On March 23, 2023, the vessel HC LARA encountered a significant challenge when it experienced an engine failure while departing from Murmansk, Russia, in the Barents Sea. While navigating through Kolskiy Bay, HC LARA found itself in dangerously close proximity to the Floating Storage and Offloading unit, FSO UMBA (IMO 9196620). This unexpected engine issue caused the HC LARA to drift towards the FSO, elevating the risk of a potentially catastrophic collision. Fortunately, quick action from the pilot aboard HC LARA, in concert with the nearby Traffic Control Center, averted disaster. They promptly enlisted the help of a Navy tug which was on standby, successfully preventing the collision. Following this incident, HC LARA was safely towed to an anchorage where the crew addressed the engine failure. After resolving the mechanical issue, the vessel resumed its journey, setting sail for Hamburg.

This delivery marks the third ship constructed by Vinashin for international clients, showcasing their growing reputation in maritime construction. The HC LARA features a robust 5,400 horsepower engine, spans 129 meters in length, and 17 meters in width, setting a commendable standard for efficiency and capability, with an average cruising speed of approximately 15 knots. Designed by International Naval Engineering Consultants B.V (INEC), a renowned ship design and consultancy firm based in the Netherlands, this vessel represents a blend of advanced engineering and design excellence.
