Scottish Emergency Towing Vessel Ievoli Black Begins Five-Year Contract
As of January 1, the newly appointed Scottish Emergency Towing Vessel (ETV) Ievoli Black officially commenced its five-year contract. This 70-metre vessel, managed under a contract awarded to Ardent Maritime Netherlands BV by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), replaces the Kirkwall-based tug Herakles. Having arrived in Orkney from her previous station in the Adriatic, the Ievoli Black is set to ensure maritime safety by conducting regular patrols, moving away from the Herakles's operational model. The initiative is backed by the UK Government's funding commitment announced in July, which promises financial support for the next five years to enhance maritime safety in the region.
UK's MCA Partners with Ardent for Enhanced Emergency Towage Services
The Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) of the United Kingdom has formalized a significant contract with Ardent, aimed at bolstering emergency towage capabilities along the northern and north-western shores of Scotland. A key aspect of this agreement is the deployment of the emergency towing vessel, 'Ievoli Black,' which is scheduled to reach Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands by December 31, 2016. Upon its arrival, 'Ievoli Black' will take over duties from the current emergency towing vessel, 'Herakles,' ensuring continued maritime safety and response readiness in the region.
