Emergency Medivac Operation in the North Atlantic Seas

Feb 19, 2021 10:17

On February 18, 2021, a critical emergency unfolded in the North Atlantic when the Netherlands Coastguard received an urgent notification regarding a crew member aboard the vessel 'Jan Van Gent'. The individual had unfortunately suffered a stroke while the ship was traveling from Aratu to Aviles, approximately 190 nautical miles away from Las Palmas. In response to the distress call, Salvamento MarĂtimo quickly mobilized the Helimer 202 helicopter from Gando to provide essential medical aid. Due to the considerable distance from the ship, the helicopter made a strategic refueling stop in Arrecife before proceeding to the site. Thankfully, the medivac operation was executed flawlessly, with the patient being safely hoisted aboard and subsequently transferred to Hosp. Dr. NegrĂn for further medical care.

Ship Grounding Incident in Lake Saint-Pierre

Apr 10, 2016 20:01

On the morning of April 9, 2016, the cargo vessel "Jan van Gent" experienced a grounding incident in Lake Saint-Pierre, located in the St. Lawrence River, just south of Yamachiche. The vessel, which was en route from Sète to Hamilton on Lake Ontario, encountered engine and steering failures that caused it to veer off its navigational route and run aground on the north shore of the river. By midday, a Transport Canada inspector had boarded the ship to assess the circumstances surrounding the grounding. Fortunately, the "Jan van Gent" was successfully refloated by 5 p.m., aided by two tugboats, and continued its journey upstream where it eventually docked in Montreal for a thorough inspection and necessary repairs. For further details, you can view the report uploaded at tvanouvelles.fr, which includes photos of the incident.
