Quintillion Set to Transform Western Alaska with High-Speed Internet
Western Alaska is on the brink of a technological revolution as Quintillion prepares to install high-speed internet. After years of meticulous planning and securing necessary permits, the company is ready to embark on its ambitious project of laying fiber optic cable from Prudhoe Bay to Nome. The Ile de Brehat, a specialized cable-laying vessel, has already begun its journey, having navigated from its homeport in France through the Panama Canal and is now en route to Nome, with another support vessel poised nearby in the Bering Sea. Currently docked in Dutch Harbor, the Ile de Brehat is under the command of Captain Charles Souffre, who welcomes Quintillion's executives and investors aboard. "This is the cable ship Ile de Brehat," he announced, emphasizing the significant role the nearly 500-foot-long vessel and its 70-member crew will play in this groundbreaking initiative. The ship is operated by Alcatel Submarine Networks, the French firm that Quintillion has contracted to develop and install the cable system. Construction is set to begin shortly as the crew prepares to trench the seabed outside Nome. This intricate operation is expected to run continuously, 24 hours a day, throughout September, employing state-of-the-art multimillion-dollar equipment. This monumental project marks a transformative step towards enhanced connectivity for Western Alaska, ensuring faster, reliable internet access for its residents and businesses.
