Indian-Goodwill Ship Details and Seafarer Feedback

On September 11, 2019, a bold group of 29 Greenpeace activists ascended cranes in Gdansk, Poland, in a determined effort to obstruct the unloading of coal imported from Mozambique aboard the cargo ship 'Indian Goodwill'. The activists, advocating for a transition to renewable energy, displayed banners from the cranes proclaiming 'Poland without coal 2030'. The situation drew attention from local police as well as port officials, who were present to monitor the unfolding events. Just a couple of days prior, on September 9, Greenpeace had attempted to thwart the docking of the cargo vessel by positioning their own ship, the 'Rainbow Warrior', in its path. This move prompted the intervention of armed border guards who subsequently removed the Greenpeace vessel from the port and detained the captain and another activist early on September 10. After conducting identity checks, another 16 activists onboard were released, while the 'Rainbow Warrior' was anchored outside the port. By September 11, prosecutors were set to decide whether to charge the detained individuals— a Spanish captain and an Austrian national— for violations concerning navigation safety. Greenpeace is urging Poland's right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) government to adhere to the European Union's target of discontinuing coal use by 2030.
