Iver Ability Sets Sail from Dublin Bay to Delfzijl after Extended Stay
The striking red tanker Iver Ability has departed Dublin Bay after a lengthy six-month anchorage, heading towards the Dutch Port of Delfzijl. This voyage marks the end of a prolonged stay that began in August following an incident during the ship's delivery of Bitumen to Dublin Port earlier this summer. The tanker, which notably sat idle through the Christmas of 2016, continued to engage in discussions regarding its cargo's discharge while at anchor. Despite its stationary status, the vessel remained fully operational throughout, with the crew fulfilling their duties and regular crew changes being conducted, as confirmed by the ship's management team.
Iver Ability Crew Faces Unique Dublin Bay Christmas Amid Cargo Delays
As Christmas approaches, a group of seafarers aboard the 129-meter-long tanker Iver Ability is preparing for an unusual festive season in Dublin Bay. This Gibraltar-registered vessel, which boasts a striking red and white hull, has been anchored in Irish waters for over four months due to complications surrounding the unloading of its bitumen cargo. With 13 crew members onboard, the ship has captured the attention of coastal strollers, particularly when illuminated at night. Managers of the Iver Ability revealed that the ship was moved to its anchorage in August after encountering a significant issue—an adverse reaction during cargo operations led to a rupture of a hatch seal while at Dublin Port, raising safety concerns. Despite the crew's longstanding stay in the bay, they remain present neither out of sight nor out of mind as they navigate these challenging operational hurdles.
