Humanitarian Aid Ships Return to Larnaca After Tragedy in Gaza
On April 3, the humanitarian convoy featuring the 'Jennifer' and 'Open Arms' made its way back to Larnaca, carrying 240 tons of food aid that was intended for Gaza. This decision came in light of the tragic event on April 1, when aid workers from World Central Kitchen (WCK) lost their lives due to an Israeli airstrike. The 'Jennifer' anchored just outside of the port of Larnaca, while the 'Open Arms' had already reached the location earlier. The aid shipment comprised a total of 340 tonnes of supplies dispatched from Cyprus on March 30. On the day of the airstrike, the WCK team had just completed unloading 100 tonnes of essential supplies from another barge that had also come from Cyprus. In response to the deaths of their team members, WCK, which has been operational in Gaza since October, has temporarily suspended its activities in the region and redirected their fleet back to Cyprus. The 'Jennifer', which carried around 250 tons of vital relief items, left the region without completing its mission. This incident prompted World Central Kitchen to immediately halt its operations in the area. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the strike on foreign aid workers, describing it as a
Humanitarian Voyage: 'Jennifer' Sets Sail from Larnaca for Gaza
The 'Jennifer', a ship dedicated to delivering humanitarian assistance, departed from Larnaca on March 29, as part of the Amalthea project aimed at supporting Gaza. This mission is expected to take approximately three days. In addition to carrying aid, the 'Jennifer' is tasked with towing a barge initially delivered to Gaza by the 'Open Arms' two weeks prior, which contained a substantial 200 tons of food. Accompanying the 'Jennifer' on this vital journey is another support vessel, tasked with delivering essential equipment. These efforts are coordinated by the World Central Kitchen (WCK) NGO, emphasizing the importance of humanitarian aid in the region.
