Mechanical Failure Strands Jersey Near Patmos

Dec 19, 2025 09:55

On December 17, 2025, the cargo vessel 'Jersey' encountered a significant mechanical failure, leaving it stranded and drifting approximately 19 nautical miles west of Patmos. The ship was en route from Navodari to Aqaba with a crew of 21 at the time of incident. The Patmos Port Authority was notified of the situation on December 18 at noon, prompting an immediate response. The local emergency plan was activated, and a patrol vessel from the Greek Coast Guard, along with the tug 'Pothitos II' (IMO: 9186572), was dispatched to assist in the rescue operation. The 'Jersey' was successfully towed towards Kalymnos, where it anchored in Kalymnos Bay near Pothia at coordinates 36Β° 56' N 027Β° 00' E. The vessel has been prohibited from continuing its journey until it provides a repaired certificate and passes an inspection by its monitoring classification society. As of December 19, the 'Jersey' remains at anchorage, waiting for clearance to sail again.

Access Denied: 'Furkan' and 'Salah Aldeen 2' Prohibited from Paris MoU Waters

Sep 15, 2015 11:19

In a significant enforcement action, the Vanuatu-flagged vessel 'Furkan' and the vessel 'Salah Aldeen 2' have been strictly denied entry into the waters governed by the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Port State Control. The 'Salah Aldeen 2' has been held in Tarragona since December 16, 2014, marking its third detention in the Paris MoU region over the past 36 months. Similarly, the 'Furkan' was detained in Castellon, Spain, just days later on December 20, 2014, representing its third detention within a short span of 24 months in the same area. According to Section 4 of the Paris MoU and Article 16 of EU Council Directive 2009/16/EC1, both vessels will not be permitted to access any port or anchorage in the Paris MoU region, with the exception of ports and anchorages belonging to their respective flag states. This access denial will take effect immediately after the vessels are given clearance to leave their current locations. As this marks the first instance of an access refusal, each vessel will face a three-month prohibition from entering the designated waters.

Vessel Faces Three-Month Ban in Paris MoU Region by Spain

Jan 01, 2015 12:17

On December 30, 2014, a vessel was officially banned by Spain from operating in the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) region for a period of three months. The decision came as a result of the vessel's history of multiple detentions, raising concerns over compliance with safety and environmental regulations. This action highlights the stringent enforcement measures within the Paris MoU, aimed at maintaining maritime safety standards.
