In a bold move, shipping firms servicing the Sino-Japan route in Qingdao have banded together to cease providing services to any customer, including shipping agents, that opts for Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping. This significant decision has garnered the backing of the Qingdao Shipowners’ Association. The close proximity between Qingdao and Japan has led to an influx of medium and small shipping enterprises vying for market share, resulting in severe overcapacity and unhealthy competition in the sector. To counteract these issues and foster a more stable trading environment, the shipping companies initiated a committee under the auspices of the Qingdao Shipowners’ Association back in 2010, implementing a market-sharing agreement and promoting transparent operational practices. However, the committee has expressed concerns that Jinjiang Shipping has failed to adhere to these established protocols, jeopardizing the industry's long-term viability. "The association is committed to preventing conflicts between shipping entities, but Jinjiang Shipping must collaborate with Qingdao's shipping companies to cultivate a fair and sustainable market," stated Wang Junyao, vice president of the Qingdao Shipowners’ Association.
