Norwegian Coast Guard Intervenes with Retail Vessel Jupiter in Svalbard Waters
On February 16, 2010, the Norwegian Coast Guard conducted a thorough inspection of the retail vessel "Jupiter" (IMO 7700116) as it navigated the waters near Svalbard. The authorities dispatched a helicopter to the location, equipped with police officers who proceeded to detain the ship for further investigation. Following the incident, the Governor of Svalbard made the decision not to file charges against the vessel's captain. After a detailed interrogation, the Governor revealed that the "Jupiter" had indeed submitted its required activity notifications to the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries. However, due to an oversight in processing, the notification was not officially registered. Eventually, the vessel was released from detention on February 18, 2010, allowing it to resume its activities.
