Kamelia Faces Fuel Pump Issues During Voyage to St. Petersburg

Mar 19, 2020 10:36

On March 17, 2020, at approximately 9:40 PM, the cargo vessel 'Kamelia' encountered significant technical difficulties while navigating towards St. Petersburg from Seaham. The vessel, carrying a crew of nine, went adrift due to a malfunction in the main engine's fuel pump, located at coordinates 54°56'35" N and 000°53'12" W. Fortunately, after the faulty fuel pump was successfully replaced, the 'Kamelia' was able to continue its journey, with an updated estimated time of arrival set for March 22.

Szczecin Port Incident: Kamelia Faces Steering Failures

Aug 26, 2017 22:22

On August 23, 2017, at approximately 5:40 PM, the vessel 'Kamelia' encountered significant challenges while maneuvering in the Szczecin port, coming from Swinoujscie with the intention of docking at Hungary Quay. During a turning maneuver near Babina Pond, a failure in the steering gear—believed to stem from an electronic malfunction—caused the ship to veer perpendicularly and out of the designated fairway. After overcoming this initial setback, the Kamelia continued its journey. However, while approaching Cement Quay, the ship suffered another rudder failure, resulting in a collision with the quay where the bulbous bow sustained damage. To ensure safe docking, two tugboats were deployed to assist 'Kamelia' to safely moor at Hungary Quay. Following the incidents, an investigation has been initiated, and the Maritime Office in Szczecin has conducted a Port State Control inspection, which came after previous repairs on the steering gear and a hull inspection by the classifier. Fortunately, the PSC inspection found no issues preventing further navigation. However, by August 28, the Kamelia continued to be docked in port. Engine Malfunction Near Kiel Canal Leads to Emergency Response

Apr 04, 2017 19:32

On April 4, 2017, at 3:20 PM, the vessel 'Kamelia' encountered a severe engine malfunction while navigating towards the Kiel Canal during its journey from Skulte to Brugge. The incident, which involved a crankshaft explosion, resulted from overheating of engine components and a subsequent deflagration due to hot oil, causing the ship to drift aimlessly nearby the Kiel Lighthouse. In response to the emergency, the crew executed an emergency stop and dropped anchor until assistance arrived. Two tugs were dispatched to the location and successfully towed the 'Kamelia' to Lindenau shipyard in Kiel for necessary repairs. The water police in Kiel have initiated an investigation into the incident. After repairs were completed, 'Kamelia' departed from Lindenau Shipyard on May 2 at 10 PM, with its next destination being Papenburg. The vessel reached Papenburg on May 4 at 8 AM.
