Bilal Erdoğan's Firm Expands Fleet with $18 Million Tanker Acquisition
The BMZ Group, led by Bilal Erdoğan, the son of Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has recently secured a new tanker for $18 million. The M/T Shovket Alekperova will sail under the Maltese flag as the third addition in a series of five tankers expected to enhance the company's maritime operations. This strategic acquisition contributes to an overall investment of approximately $90 million in BMZ's fleet expansion. Measuring 140 meters in length and 16 meters in width, the new tanker boasts a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 7,100. In the previous year, the BMZ Group acquired two additional tankers, which collectively cost $53 million. Expectations are set for the delivery of the remaining two tankers by the close of this year. Initially, BMZ had placed an order for ten tankers but later opted to terminate the purchase of five vessels for reasons that have not been disclosed. Reports suggest that BMZ Group is capitalizing on the flag of convenience system, allowing ships to be registered in foreign nations, thereby minimizing tax liabilities while flying the flag of the registered country.
Palmali Group Welcomes Shovket Alekperova to Its Fleet
On August 30, 2023, Palmali Group, based in Istanbul, proudly added the Shovket Alekperova, a 7,100 DWT tanker, to its growing fleet. This acquisition marks the seventh vessel from the innovative RST22M project, as highlighted in a recent release from Marine Engineering Bureau. The RST22M series, along with its counterparts RST22, 005RST01, and RST12, showcases several notable features. These include fully revolving rudder propellers, a heightened trunk design, and advanced submersible cargo pumps. Additionally, the tankers forgo a longitudinal bulkhead in the center line, alongside the absence of framing within their cargo tanks, enhancing efficiency. With the distinction of being classified under the Volgo-Don Max. category, these vessels are tailored to meet the dimensions required for both the Volga-Don Canal and the Volga-Baltic Waterway. Each RST22M tanker measures 139.95 meters in length, has a breadth of 16.6 meters, and a depth of 6 meters. Another significant advancement is the increased deadweight capacity of 750 tonnes at sea along with augmented cargo tank volumes, all while adhering to river navigation standards. Moreover, these state-of-the-art vessels comply with the latest international regulations for transporting vegetable oils, including a two-compartment subdivision system. Powering the Shovket Alekperova are two medium-speed diesel engines, each generating 1,200 kW and utilizing IFO380 fuel. This delivery not only enhances Palmali Group's operational capabilities but also underscores its commitment to meeting modern shipping demands.
