Working Conditions Aboard the Karewood-Glory

On the morning of November 11, 2024, maritime authorities in Piraeus and Saronic received vital information from the Unified Center for Coordination of Search and Rescue (E.K.S.E.D.) L.S.-EL.AKT. regarding the incident involving the cargo ship 'Karewood Glory.' The vessel, which was traveling from Inebolu to Piraeus, ran aground on rocky terrain on the southeast coast of Makronissos Island. The nine-person crew, all of whom are Ukrainian nationals, remained unharmed throughout the ordeal. Following the grounding, the 'Karewood Glory' was successfully escorted to a safe anchorage at the Port of Piraeus by the tugboat 'Alexander 5.' Preliminary inspections revealed a breach in the starboard side above the waterline; however, fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the crew members. In response, the 2nd Port Department of Keratsini, part of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus, has issued an order preventing the ship from sailing until it provides the necessary certification of seaworthiness and maintenance from the supervising classification society.
