On November 24, 2014, around 8:30 PM, the cargo vessel "Katre" ran aground just inside the harbor jetties at the entrance of Hvide Sande. The ship remains stuck, listing to the starboard side with its bow submerged. While efforts to refloat the ship commenced, no firm date has been set for the next attempt to extract it from the sandbar. The lifeboat "Emile Robin" along with the fishing vessel "Lisbeth Frich" successfully assisted in maneuvering the ship behind the harbor jetties. However, an initial attempt to refloat the vessel on November 25, timed for high tide at approximately 4 PM, did not succeed. The "Katre" was en route from Pärnu, carrying a load of 4,000 tons of wheat when for reasons still under investigation, the ship altered its course and became grounded in shallow waters south of the harbor entrance. The ship's East European captain, who opted not to utilize pilot assistance when navigating the port, was subsequently drug tested by Danish police with results returning negative. The vessel Katre has successfully completed its repairs following a collision with the Dutch container ship Statengracht (IMO: 9288045). On March 2, shortly after noon, the Katre departed from Szczecin, Poland, and set sail for Liepaja, its first destination. The ship arrived at the port of Liepaja on March 4 at 2:45 a.m. Meanwhile, the Statengracht underwent repairs in the same Polish port, departing earlier on February 25. After a stop in Swinoujscie, the Statengracht docked in Rauma from February 28 to March 2, before continuing its journey.
