The U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command has recently announced the extension of its charter for the salvage vessel 'Kellie Chouest'. Awarded to Alpha Marine Services, a subsidiary of Edison Chouest Offshore based in Cut Off, the significant $8 million contract ensures the provision of both the vessel and crew for an extended operational year. This contract was officially released by the Defense Department on June 4, 2012. Stationed in San Diego, the 'Kellie Chouest' will play a crucial role in various special missions around the globe. The vessel's capabilities include launching and recovering small boats, as well as refueling, provisioning, and maintaining them. Additionally, it is set up to support helicopter operations, enhancing its versatility for a wide range of naval tasks. The contract also allows for two potential extensions: one for an additional year and another for a duration of up to six months, reflecting the Navy's ongoing commitment to maritime operational readiness.
