Tragic Incident on m/v Ken Goh: Two Injured in Severe Weather, One Fatality Reported

Oct 21, 2011 10:04

On October 21, 2011, the bulk carrier Ken Goh found itself in perilous conditions approximately 380 nautical miles northeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, in the North Pacific. Two Filipino crew members suffered serious injuries while working outdoors amidst the harsh weather. Due to the severe circumstances, the Ken Goh urgently requested medical evacuation for the injured men at coordinates 53 11N 169 06E. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Petropavlovsk responded by advising the vessel to make its way to Petropavlovsk, as the search and rescue services lacked a helicopter capable of covering such a distance. As the Ken Goh is currently navigating toward Petropavlovsk with an estimated arrival time of October 22, 2011, at 0600 LT, it is with deep regret that we report the tragic passing of one of the injured seamen. The vessel was en route from Vancouver to China at the time of the incident. For further updates, visit Maritime Bulletin at http://www.odin.tc.
