The cargo vessel 'Mumtaz Amca' successfully completed its unloading operations at Diliskelesi before being relocated to the Tuzla shipyard for repairs. A panel of surveyors conducted thorough assessments to identify the root causes of the incident and evaluate the extent of the damages incurred. Following the findings and recommendations from the class surveyor, repair and maintenance work on the ship commenced promptly. By March 10, 'Mumtaz Amca' was stationary in the Tuzla shipyard, and after completing necessary repairs, the vessel made its way to Istanbul Anchorage on April 13.

The 'Mumtaz Amca' remains stationary at Sinop anchorage as of March 1, due to pending legal and technical inspections. State and P&I surveyors have conducted an initial part of the technical inspection, with a comprehensive review scheduled to follow the completion of the cargo discharge operation at Diliskelesi. Crucially, the vessel's departure permission has not been granted since necessary formalities are still incomplete. Statements from the crew regarding the incident were collected by both the Harbour Master incident desk and the Public Prosecutor. The situation continues to be monitored as the legal investigation progresses.

Tragedy struck the cargo ship 'Mümtaz Amca' on February 28, 2018, when a devastating explosion rocked its boiler room while the vessel was anchored at Sinop, Turkey. The ship, laden with coal, had sought refuge at Sinop Cape to escape a fierce storm, having traveled from Tuapse to Izmit. The incident occurred approximately 15 miles off the Sinop coast, attributed to the buildup of trapped gas in the boiler room. Following the explosion, the 'Mümtaz Amca' was relocated four miles offshore. Emergency response teams were dispatched promptly; however, inclement weather hampered the efforts of an air ambulance to evacuate an injured crew member, Kazım Sucu. Meanwhile, another crew member, Ragıp Yanak, was successfully rescued by maritime police and transported to a state hospital for treatment. Local authorities, including the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), firefighters, and police, remained active at the scene, tirelessly engaged in ongoing rescue operations.
