On June 28, 2017, the ferries 'Kineret' and 'Ulin' (IMO: 9080261) encountered trouble while navigating the Makassar Strait, as they ran aground in the Kariangau estuary. This incident occurred in the afternoon and involved over 200 passengers along with numerous vehicles onboard.
