On April 14, 2014, at approximately 1 p.m., the passenger ferry 'Laboe,' operated by Schlepp- und Fährgesellschaft Kiel, encountered trouble while navigating the turbulent waters of the Kiel Bight. During a routine berthing maneuver, strong west winds pushed the vessel onto the shore at Mönkeberg, leaving it stranded parallel to the beach between the marina and the jetty. Responding swiftly to the situation, the tugboat 'Falckenstein,' also part of the Schlepp- und Fährgesellschaft Kiel fleet, was dispatched to assist. The tug successfully pulled the 'Laboe' free at around 2 p.m. Initial inspections revealed no damage to the ferry, allowing it to continue on its intended course to Laboe. After completing its journey, the 'Laboe' returned to the SFK base in Kiel at 4:50 p.m. for thorough examinations.
