Vane Brothers Takes Delivery of New Tugboat KINGS POINT
The Vane Brothers Company, a leading name in marine transportation based in Baltimore, proudly announces the arrival of its latest tugboat, KINGS POINT. This vessel marks a significant addition to Maryland's maritime fleet as part of an ongoing series of new builds. Under the careful guidance of Senior Port Captain Jim Demske, KINGS POINT is the 10th of 14 tugboats in the famed "Sassafras Class," all constructed by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland. This tugboat follows the recent delivery of its sister vessel, FORT SCHUYLER, in April, with additional launches anticipated throughout the summer. KINGS POINT boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 94 feet in length, 32 feet in width, and possessing a hull depth of 13 feet. It mirrors many features of its nine predecessors, all built under the same contract with Chesapeake Shipbuilding. The construction of KINGS POINT spanned 13 months, culminating in a powerhouse designed for performance and efficiency. Equipped with robust twin Caterpillar 3512 main engines that generate a total of 3,000 horsepower, this tug operates seamlessly with a single-drum hydraulic towing winch. The arrival of KINGS POINT underscores Vane Brothers' commitment to excellence in maritime operations and their dedication to expanding their fleet with state-of-the-art vessels.
