On November 17, 2013, the Humber RNLI lifeboat undertook a critical medical evacuation of a crew member from the vessel 'Stril Commander,' located 35 miles northeast of Spurn Point. The operation commenced at 8:30 AM when the lifeboat was launched following a distress call made through Humber Coastguard. The ship required immediate assistance to evacuate a crewman who had sustained injuries during anchor handling activities. The lifeboat crew was promptly alerted, with the 'Pride of the Humber' leaving her moorings around 8:45 AM. Favorable weather conditions, characterized by a calm sea and no wind, facilitated the operation. By 9:10 AM, communication had been established with the 'Stril Commander,' setting the stage for the planned evacuation. The Humber lifeboat reached the scene at 9:30 AM and positioned itself alongside the 'Stril Commander' to commence the rescue. The transfer of the injured crewman was executed smoothly, ensuring his safe relocation to the lifeboat. Once aboard, he received initial medical checks from the lifeboat crew as they set their course back to Hull. The lifeboat made its way to the outer steps at King George Docks, arriving at approximately 11:05 AM. There, the injured crew member was handed over to ambulance paramedics who transported him to Hull Royal Infirmary for further medical care.
