Disabled Vessel 'Koningsborg' Successfully Towed to Brest After Cargo Incident
On January 31, 2015, at 5:25 a.m., the cargo ship 'Koningsborg' alerted CROSS Corsen regarding propulsion issues that rendered the vessel in need of immediate tug assistance. At the time, the ship was transporting a load of timber from Llovisa to Bizerte and was situated 18 nautical miles west of the island of Ouessant. The situation worsened overnight when engine failure led to a significant loss of deck cargo; fortunately, the stability of the vessel remained intact. In response to the emergency, the CROSS issued navigational alerts on VHF to other vessels operating in the vicinity. By 11:30 a.m., the Maritime Prefect ordered the emergency tug 'Abeille Bourbon' to assist in towing the damaged ship towards Brest. During the operation, the towing line snapped as the convoy navigated the Bay of Biscay southwest of Pierres Noires lighthouse, but the issue was quickly resolved. The 'Koningsborg' ultimately arrived at the port of Brest at 9:35 p.m. For further images and reports, visit the French press coverage: [Premar Atlantique](https://www.premar-atlantique.gouv.fr/communiques-presse/cargaison-perdue-durant-nuit-navire-avarie-large-ouessant-est-remorque-office-vers-brest.html), [France 3 Regions](http://france3-regions.francetvinfo.fr/bretagne/un-navire-en-avarie-au-large-de-ouessant-remorque-brest-894217.html), [Cote Brest](http://www.cotebrest.fr/2015/12/31/un-bateau-remorque-au-large-d-ouessant/).
