Shipping Routes Shift from Ningbo to Shanghai Amid Terminal Closure
In response to a temporary closure linked to Covid-19, shipping vessels are being rerouted from Ningbo to Shanghai. The Ningbo Meishan Island International Container Terminal (MSICT) was officially closed starting August 11, 2021, with all terminal operations ceasing at 3 a.m. on August 12. Export container gate-ins were restricted to only two days prior to a vessel's estimated time of arrival (ETA). Notably, CMA CGM announced that cargo handling for its vessels 'CMA CGM Samson' on the PEX3 service and 'CMA CGM Rivoli' on the FAL1 service would be paused until the terminal reopens. The cargo vessel 'CMA CGM Melisande', which also serves the PEX3 route, is now expected to dock in Shanghai on August 18 or 19 before heading to Ningbo, anticipated to arrive on August 20 or 21. Similarly, the FAL3 service's Kerguelen will follow suit but will arrive two days earlier. Additionally, vessels such as the 'CMA CGM Centaurus' on the Columbus PNW route, 'Cosco Venice' on the GMXP route, and 'Kota Carum' on the REX2 service will bypass Ningbo entirely. Hapag-Lloyd has alerted its customers regarding potential delays in upcoming sailings, while Cosco confirmed that several ships would also skip Ningbo this week.
