Historic Arrival of Hyundai Together: The First 13,000 TEU Container Ship at CTA Hamburg

Apr 18, 2012 08:28

In a landmark moment for the maritime industry, the container ship Hyundai Together made its inaugural call to the Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) at Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) over the weekend. This impressive vessel, boasting a capacity of 13,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), is set to enhance operations on Loop 4, a vital shipping route that connects Asia and Europe under the G6 Alliance, which was established in late 2011. The Hyundai Together docked in Hamburg early Saturday morning at approximately 3 a.m. and departed the port the following afternoon, carrying a substantial load of around 60,000 tons of cargo. To commemorate this significant event, Hamburg's harbour master, Jörg Pollmann, presented Captain Loukas Konstantinidis with the admiralty plaque of the Port of Hamburg, officially recognizing the ship's maiden voyage to the terminal. This milestone not only underscores the capability and expansion of container shipping but also marks a new chapter for the CTA in accommodating larger vessels, which is crucial for navigating the ever-growing demands of global trade.
