On February 21, 2019, the container ship Kota Satria faced a harrowing attack while navigating the Gulf of Guinea. A group of more than four armed assailants aboard a dark, fast-moving vessel attempted to board the ship. The intruders made a bold move, trying to affix a ladder to the hull but were ultimately unsuccessful, which slowed their pursuit. In a desperate attempt to intimidate, they fired two shots at the ship's bridge and accommodation area. In response, the ship's captain swiftly activated security protocols, reaching out to the company’s security officer as well as the Nigerian Navy for assistance. Meanwhile, evasive maneuvers were executed, prompting the attackers to retreat. Fortunately, the crew of the Kota Satria remained unharmed, and there was no damage reported to the vessel, with no items missing. Following the incident, the Kota Satria was escorted by an armed ship and safely docked at the port of Onne on February 22. After a brief stay, the vessel departed on February 28, setting its course for Singapore, with an estimated time of arrival on March 27.
