Successful Medevac Operation in the Weser Estuary
On the morning of March 24, 2022, a medevac operation unfolded within the Weser estuary involving the container ship 'Kyoto Express', which was traveling from Rotterdam to Hamburg. The Bremen Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) received an alert at 9:50 a.m. regarding a 32-year-old Filipino crew member who was experiencing severe eye pain after performing his duties on board. Following consultations between the vessel's captain and an emergency medical technician, the decision was made to conduct an immediate medevac for the affected individual. The DGzRS lifeboat 'Theo Fischer', dispatched from the Bremerhaven station, arrived alongside the 'Kyoto Express' at 11:15 a.m. The injured crew member was successfully transferred onto the lifeboat and subsequently transported to Bremerhaven. There, he was handed over to the local rescue service, which took him to an ophthalmologist for further evaluation and treatment.
