Foiled Pirate Attack on 'La Mancha Knutsen' in Gulf of Guinea

Mar 11, 2017 17:51

On March 10, 2017, at 6:15 AM, the tanker 'La Mancha Knutsen' faced a piracy attempt in the Gulf of Guinea, specifically at coordinates 03°03'N 006°57'E, approximately 90 miles south of Port Harcourt. A group of armed assailants approached the vessel and opened fire in their attempt to seize control. Demonstrating quick thinking, the crew activated the ship's security alert system, increased its speed, and executed evasive maneuvers to thwart the attack. Fortunately, the pirates abandoned their effort, resulting in no reported injuries or damages. It is notable that 'La Mancha Knutsen' was operating without an armed security team on board at the time of the encounter. Following the incident, the tanker made its way to Bonny, where it successfully berthed later that same day.

Revolutionary Knutsen LNG Carrier Promises $1 Million in Annual Bunker Savings

Sep 27, 2016 10:17

Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) has proudly delivered the latest addition to the Knutsen OAS Shipping AS fleet, the newly constructed liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, La Mancha Knutsen. This vessel, boasting a remarkable capacity of 176,000 cubic metres (cbm), is designed with advanced energy-efficient features that are projected to yield significant economic benefits. Notably, the La Mancha Knutsen incorporates a cutting-edge boil-off gas (BOG) system that surpasses traditional models by achieving full re-liquefaction of 100% of the BOG. This innovation allows for maximization of the gas's utility as fuel for the ship, ultimately leading to estimated annual savings of around $1 million in bunker costs. This groundbreaking development represents a strategic move towards sustainability in the maritime industry, aligning with modern demands for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
