Engine Failure Leads to Incident on the Kiel Canal
On the evening of May 8, 2015, the vessel 'Bremer Martha,' while navigating from Cagliari to Liepaja, experienced a critical engine failure as it sailed through the Kiel Canal. This unfortunate event occurred in the eastern stretch of the canal, where the ship collided with the northern embankment near Breiholz. During the incident, 'Bremer Martha' became lodged between two dolphins after making contact with the Antigua-flagged cargo ship 'Pollux.' To assist the stranded vessel, the tugboat 'Wolf' was dispatched and successfully towed the 'Bremer Martha' to the communal port of Rendsburg on May 9, a little after midnight. Meanwhile, the 'Pollux' was examined in Brunsbüttel and was able to continue its journey by 5:30 a.m. on the same day.
