Collision Between Ferry and Fiducia in Fog Near Bremerhaven

Nov 26, 2014 16:26

On the evening of November 25, 2014, the Weser ferry 'Bremerhaven' experienced a collision with the vessel 'Fiducia' while navigating through thick fog in Blexen Roads. The incident resulted in minor injuries to two crew members and one passenger, with one of the injured requiring hospitalization. Significant damage was noted on one side of the ferry's hull following the collision. In the aftermath of the accident, the ferry made its way back to the fishing port in Bremerhaven and docked at the Bredo Shipyard at 1 a.m. on November 26 for necessary repairs. The water police in Bremerhaven initiated an investigation, which included analysis of radar data to understand the circumstances surrounding the collision. Despite the incident involving the 'Bremerhaven', ferry services to Blexen continued without interruption, utilizing another ferry in service. The 'Fiducia', which had sailed from Gdansk and incurred only minor damage, remained seaworthy and docked at the South Quay in Brake at 9 a.m. on November 26. It later arrived at Bredo in Bremerhaven at 11 p.m. the same day. After repairs, the 'Fiducia' departed the yard on November 29 at 8:20 a.m., continuing its journey to Vierow, where it arrived on December 1 at 6 a.m. For further information, including photographs of the incident, you can read the German report here: http://www.radiobremen.de/nachrichten/kurz_notiert/faehre-nordenham-unfall100.html.
