In a troubling incident, a tanker experienced an explosion in its engine room on April 9, 2012, while navigating approximately 30 nautical miles north of Barfleur, France, in the English Channel. The vessel was journeying from Bilbao to Teesport, carrying a cargo of butane when the explosion occurred. Following the explosion, a fire broke out on board; however, the crew acted quickly and managed to extinguish the flames.
