The Lady-Nuray: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

The container ship 'Lady Nuray' has been placed under a ban from entering all ports governed by the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a period of three months. Another detention occurred on September 22, 2022, in Livorno, with 20 deficiencies leading to an eight-day hold. These repeated deficiencies and subsequent detentions underline ongoing concerns regarding the vessel's operational safety and compliance with international maritime standards.

On the evening of December 20, 2019, the freighter 'Lady Nuray' underwent a Port State Control (PSC) inspection at the Thessaloniki port. The inspection revealed multiple critical deficiencies as outlined in Annex X of the directive CO 209/16/EC, leading to the detention of the vessel in accordance with the provisions of the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

On December 18, 2019, tragedy struck the crew of the 'Lady Nuray' when their 47-year-old Turkish master fell to his death while conducting unloading operations. The incident occurred at approximately midday as the vessel was docked at Dock 22-23 in Thessaloníki. The captain fell 2.5 meters from an elevated area on the deck, specifically in the container landing zone, suffering a severe head injury. Despite immediate transportation to the University General Hospital in Thessaloniki, he was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival. Authorities are currently carrying out a preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate accident. The 'Lady Nuray', which had arrived from Taranto carrying a cargo of iron, was scheduled to continue to Gemlik after completing its loading operations.
