Bulker 'Long Lucky' Collides with Kiel Canal Lock Gate
On June 6, 2013, at 5:30 p.m., the bulk carrier 'Long Lucky' experienced a navigational mishap while entering the large southern lock of the Kiel Canal in Kie-Holtenau. The vessel was en route from Tarragona to Ust-Luga, having undergone fueling at the Bominflot bunker station in Kiel-Wik starting at 3 p.m. Prior to entering the locks, the 'Long Lucky' received assistance from the SFK tug 'Holtenau'. Shortly after unmooring, the ship unexpectedly veered to starboard, nearly colliding with the canal ferry 'Adler 1'. Subsequently, the bulk carrier struck the lock gate, which was stationed at the canal's shoreline, resulting in damage to both the gate and the vessel itself. Following the incident, the tug successfully maneuvered the ship back into the fairway. The 'Long Lucky' was able to berth in the lock by around 6 p.m. After a thorough inspection and necessary surveys, the vessel resumed its journey to Russia, departing at 7:15 p.m. For further details and images, German reports are available at: http://forum-schiff.de/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1377&p=90999#p90999 and http://www.kn-online.de/Lokales/Kiel/Long-Lucky-rammte-Schleusentor.
