In a disturbing development, the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) has documented three separate armed robbery incidents targeting vessels in the Singapore Strait. These events unfolded over the weekend of November 7-8, 2020, specifically within the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS). Remarkably, all three incidents transpired within a mere six-hour window and in close proximity. Thankfully, there were no confrontations reported between the assailants and the ship's crews. However, the thieves did manage to make off with valuable ship equipment and a lifebuoy during two of the incidents, while the third vessel was fortunate to experience no theft. The affected ships included the 'Zeno', 'Lefkada', and 'Atlantic Diana', highlighting ongoing maritime security challenges in one of the world's busiest shipping routes.
