On August 2, 2021, the United States Coast Guard successfully completed a medical evacuation of a 60-year-old crew member from the fishing vessel 'Leigh Ann Moran,' located approximately 65 miles off the coast of Galveston, Texas. At around 4 p.m., the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received an urgent call indicating that a mariner was suffering from disorientation and other health issues. In response, the watchstanders consulted with a duty flight surgeon, who promptly recommended the activation of a medevac operation. A dedicated MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston, alongside an HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew from Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi, was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the Dolphin helicopter team executed a successful hoist operation, safely retrieving the patient and transporting him to Scholes International Airport. Subsequently, emergency medical services transferred the individual to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he arrived in stable condition, ready for further medical treatment.
