Bulk Carrier 'Leonidas' Comes to the Rescue of Stranded Fishermen in Mexico
On February 28, 2023, the bulk carrier 'Leonidas', while making its way to Port Veracruz, Mexico, received an urgent distress call from the fishing vessel 'Benjamin' via VHF radio. The three fishermen aboard reported that they had set sail from Yucatán and had been adrift for 25 days due to a broken propeller, rendering their boat inoperative. Despite their challenging situation, the fishermen reported that their health was stable. In a commendable display of seamanship, the crew of 'Leonidas' altered their course to assist. Within less than an hour, they had successfully moored the 'Benjamin' alongside the bulk carrier. The 'Leonidas' crew immediately provided the stranded fishermen with fresh water, food, and necessary medical aid, ensuring their well-being.
