Ice-Induced Damage Forces Cargo Ship to Return for Repairs
On January 21, 2013, the cargo vessel 'Letniy Bereg' encountered a serious issue while navigating through the icy waters of Dvinskiy Bay. After the ship's master reported water incursion in the engine room, the icebreaker 'Kapitan Chaadayev' was dispatched to assist. Although the exact cause of the leak remains unknown, it is speculated that it may have resulted from an ice hole. The 'Letniy Bereg', carrying 2,220 tons of timber, was en route from Arkhangel to Gull at the time of the incident. Promptly assessing the situation, the master made the decision to return to Arkhangel for necessary repairs. The vessel arrived safely at the Krasnaya Kuznitsa repair yard later that evening.
