Urgent Medivac for Injured Crew Member Near Algeciras

Oct 13, 2025 13:12

On October 11, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the vessel 'Leto' requested an urgent medical evacuation after a crew member suffered a serious injury, falling five meters into a cargo hold while en route from Algeciras to Tanger-Med. Although the injured man was conscious, he faced severe medical risks. The CCS of Salvamento Marítimo based in Algeciras assessed the situation and determined that a helicopter evacuation was unfeasible due to overhead containers obstructing the area. Instead, they dispatched the SAR boat 'Salvamar Denébola'. By 10:25 a.m., rescue teams utilized a crane to safely lower the injured crew member on a stretcher to 'Salvamar Denébola'. He was then transported back to Algeciras, where he disembarked at 10:40 a.m., and medical personnel from 061 were on hand to evaluate his condition.
